1. Definition & Architectural Disorder

Dysplastic nevi (Clark's nevi) are benign melanocytic lesions exhibiting atypical clinical and histopathological characteristics, including lentiginous melanocytic hyperplasia, cytological atypia, and concentric dermal fibrosis. Possessing >5 dysplastic nevi confers an elevated lifetime melanoma risk.

Total-body photography and serial digital dermoscopy enable early detection of newly evolving lesions ("ugly duckling sign") without excessive unnecessary surgical excision of stable nevi.
